Springtime in NZ, and the veggie garden outside my studio is getting established.  Tomatoes, lettuce, capsicums, baby beetroot, courgettes, beans, both runner and dwarf, herbs, cauliflower - green heads (oh yuk say grandkids! but they taste pretty good.  Red pelagoniums and dwarf marigolds for colour and pest control.
Being near my studio gives me the chance to keep a watch for insect invasions and wilting in the dryer weather - and creates a relaxed ambience for painting somehow.  close to nature and all that!!

A rambling collection of potted plants, many from cuttings, stand on pebbles against the other open side of the studio.
The colour is an inspiration every morning.
The garden is a constant source of inspiration for work.  I sometimes pick just one flower and take it into the studio at the end of the day to draft out a palette knife painting to start on the following day.

"Colour is the influence of the soul: colour is a keyboard, the eyes are the hammers and the soul is the piano with many strings.  The artists the hand that plays, touching one key or another purpose fully, to create vibrations of the soul".
